Questions patients ask

How much does eyelid surgery cost?+

In the US the average surgeon fee is $3,359 for upper eyelid surgery and $3,876 for lower eyelid surgery (American Society of Plastic Surgeons). That fee does not include anesthesia or the facility. Practices that publish full prices quote about $3,000 to $6,000 for the upper lids, $3,800 to $6,500 or more for the lower lids, and $6,000 to $12,000 for both.

Why do prices vary so much?+

The surgeon's experience, the city, whether you have local or general anesthesia, whether the surgery is done in an office suite or a hospital, and how much skin and fat need work. Lower eyelid surgery that also tightens the skin costs more.

What should the price include?+

Ask for one total: surgeon's fee, anesthesia, facility, follow-up visits and medication. A low surgeon fee can hide separate anesthesia and facility bills.

Is it cheaper to do upper and lower together?+

Usually yes. Doing both in one operation means one anesthesia and one facility fee instead of two.

Does insurance cover eyelid surgery?+

Cosmetic eyelid surgery is not covered. Insurers sometimes cover upper eyelid surgery when drooping lids block your vision, usually after a visual field test. Ask your insurer what they need.
